Wenlock Edge, Roman Bank, Saturday 30th April
Sunshine again. We love this site and it was particularly lovely today with bluebells in the woods and just the right mix of sunny spots and shade. We worked further down the ride from our last visit (see Sunday 13th March).
Both sides of the ride were overgrown and crowded with trees. We removed all the brash and cut down selected trees to open up the woodland floor. The effects of this work could clearly be seen at our previous work site with limestone loving wild flowers and plants making a welcome return.
I never fail to be impressed with the amount of work that a small group of people can get done in one day. Today was no exception courtesy of Ron, John, Matt, Laura, Avril and National Trust Ranger Chris.
We will be back at this site in the autumn to continue the project.
I nearly forgot to tell you about our little extra task at the end of the workday. Can anyone guess what we might have been asked to do by Chris? Well, I certainly didn’t expect to be herding sheep at the end of the day. Thats exactly what we did. With only two attempts (first attempt – sheep won, second attempt – success!) we managed to herd the sheep towards the waiting trailer.
